Col Mitchell Elder is assigned to Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) as the Military Deputy Director in the Hosting and Compute Center where he provides leadership and strategic guidance for the procurement of net-centric technology solutions. As Head of the Contracting Office, he is responsible for management and oversight at contracting offices in the National Capital Region, Hawaii, Germany, and Bahrain.
Col Elder was born at Seymour Johnson AFB, NC and was raised as a military dependent. He earned his Commission in 1999 through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at Wright State University, OH. Col Elder has previously held various Contracting Officer and leadership positions supporting base operations, major acquisitions, and deployed contingencies as well as served on the United States Air Forces Central Command and Air Education Training Command Staffs. He has deployed extensively in support of overseas contingencies to include OPERATION SOUTHERN WATCH, OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
Col Elder’s previous assignments include: Deputy for Contract Policy Division, Secretary of the Air Force, Washington, D.C. Pentagon where he managed contracting policy oversight for eight thousand contracting professionals Air Force-wide; Commander of the 772nd Enterprise Sourcing Squadron, JBSA Lackland-Kelly Air Force Base, Texas providing worldwide strategic sourcing and contingency support; Chief of Building Partnership Operations Branch, United States Air Forces Europe (USAFE), United States Air Forces Africa (AFAFRICA), Ramstein Air Base, Germany where he coordinated USAFE-AFAFRICA engagement efforts with its NATO allies and partner nations.
Col Elder holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Wright State University, a Master of Science in Strategic Purchasing from Air Force Institute of Technology, WPAFB; a Master Degree in Military Operational Art and Science from Air University, Alabama. He is Level III Certified in Contracting.
